Microsoft Analyzed Data on Its Newly Remote Workforce. Here’s what it found about meetings, culture, workdays, and engagement. Several messages here: one, study how your remote team is doing or you won’t know whether remote is working for them or not, or if they’re OK (but don’t surveil them); two, remote workers are working longer hours and using tech more (no surprises there); three, the boundaries between work and non-work life are becoming dangerously blurred and that ‘flexible work’ is starting to mean ‘work all the time’. Four - not all companies are the same, so don’t apply data gleaned from one company to your own, without thinking deeply about it first.
